Well Ladies and Gentlemen, I am going to surprise and shock all the readers of this post. I am going to agree with Norm Erickson when it comes to the accidents that happened on Highbanks involving the two kids. The official report of the accident did not actually put the blame on anyone or any particular reason, making these tragic circumstances accidents.
I must admit and still think that the reason that these two kids are not alive today is lack of paying attention to the traffic but alas we will never truly know if this is the case. I know that in several incidents that I had kids dart out in front of me but I always was able to maintain the control of my car. I have been fortunate because I would imagine that killing a kid would be devastating to say the least.
I also agree with Bob Waldorf when it comes to driving on the Beach in Daytona. The condo residents have tried for years to take away the right to drive on the beach. I was one of the " Sons of the Beach" back in the day and one of the main reasons I moved to Volusia County was that it was unique in being able to drive in the sand.
We have too much government trying to take away our rights slowly but surely. I know that government must keep order but it also should be fair to everyone, not just the prominent residents and owners of the condos. The Beach belongs to everyone and to use the accidents on the beach as well as the sea turtles, to take away our rights is unconstitutional and un-American. Kids become the pawns of a game that means millions of dollars and revenue to this County.
Parents need to pay more attention to their kids and maybe some of these occurrences will finally be cut back. Kids that are old enough should be more aware of their surroundings. These situations are accidents and accidents are not done intentionally. We must learn from them but we can't just put the blame on someone for vindication. This solution doesn't solve anything but may ruin innocent peoples lifes.
