I couldn't believe it but did some research yesterday and it's true! when you convert the percentages for salaries, benefits and personal services to dollars it's near $100 million of a total $254 million budget! Absolutely disgusting! If all the districts are doing the same thing thats a half a BILLION $$$. For what?

While I can not begin to defend what looks like a lot of inflated salary numbers for the average income in the this state, the individual water management districts are the only thing that stand in front of our state being a big parking lot. They regulate and manage wetlands, control the amount of water being pulled from wells for drinking water, and are on the forefront of some very important restoration projects that are helping to fix some huge mistakes the Army Corp. Engineers made decades ago. With the money they are spending on salary, I hope they have the most qualified people working on these projects.

The smallest, a minor portion of the money goes to engineers. You must be a part of the problem with such a myopic view. Prove me wrong PLEASE! This is the same body who gave the VERY green go ahead to a bottling company taking millions of gallons of water from OUR supply to put in little bottles. Also, how about the people who voted to give the "bonus"? One of the members of the Board of Governors (joke) who voted for it is part of an engineering firm who has many pending things on a daily basis with SJRWMD.

Youngun, you are what is considered a "sheep". You wander around and react and listen to whoever yells the loudest. You posted an article that was clearly written with a huge slant, and written for one reason only, to get a reaction from people. You have no idea how much of the total payroll is for engineering, the article just picked a couple dozen salaries for the sheer value of shock. If you do the math, the few listed salaries is only 3% of the total workforce. A pretty small portion. If you call my view shortsighted, you might want to try opening your eyes sometime and get the whole story, not just a blurb someone wrote wanting you to get upset over. Sheep.....

Bah!! Bahhhhh!!!! It is totally irrelevant if it's 3% or 97%. Nearly $100 million in personal costs out of a total budget of $260 mill is obscene. You are quite shortsighted, and must be defending your employer. Are you an assistant deputy to the assistant of the assistant deputy who is the assistant to the deputy assistant who reports to the assistant to the deputy director?

Somebody should look at the City of Debary expenses for Parks & Recreation. While running my campaign I 'asked' what they did. I still don't understand how it takes 40 hours per week EVERY week to do what they get paid to do. They can hire me and I will do the job in 20 hours per week every other week. What a savings.

Youngun, you know you are allowed to say "I just don't understand"..... There are a lot of businesses and organizations that a majority of their expenses are salaries. Lawyers, accountants, surveyors, are just a couple. If you had any idea what the Water Management Districts did, you could probably corelate the percentage of salary to other expenses and only the could you begin to comprehend their structure and financial planning, and possibly then make an educated comment about it. FYI, no, not an employee, I work for a contractor building water and wastewater facilities, and have a bit of dealings with the districts around Florida on different projects.
